 Ganesh Chaturthi

People worship God Ganesha (Vigneshwara) while celebrating the Ganesh Chaturthi. Ganesha is a most popular deity in the Hinduism Who is worshipped by each member of the family. He is worshipped by the people always before starting any new work in any field. This festival is especially celebrated in the state of Maharashtra however now-a-days started celebrating in almost all states. It is a most important festival of Hindu religion. People worship the God of knowledge and prosperity on Ganesha Chaturthi with full devotion and faith.

People belief that Ganesha comes every year with lots happiness and prosperity and goes after removing all the sufferings. Devotees do variety of preparations at this festival to make Ganesha happy. This is celebrated as the birth anniversary of the Ganesha to welcome and honour Him. This festival starts on Chaturthi in the Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada (August or September) and ends on 11th day on Anant Chaturdashi. Worshipping Ganesha is of great importance in Hinduism. It is believed that one who worships Him with complete devotion and faith would be blessed with happiness, knowledge, wealth and long life.

People take bath in the early morning on the day of Ganesha Chaturthi, wear clean clothes and worship God. They offer many things and pray to God by chanting mantras, aarti song, and devotional songs and perform other rituals of Hindu religion. Earlier, this festival was celebrated only in some families. Later it was started celebrating as a festival with the ritual of idol installation and idol immersion to make a big occasion as well as get free from sufferings. It was started as a festival by the Lokmanya Tilak (a social reformer, Indian nationalist and freedom fighter) in 1893. At that time he made a ritual of worshipping Ganesha to protect Indians against British rule.

Now-a-days, Ganesha Chaturthi is observed as a National Festival to remove the inequality among people of Brahmins and non-Brahmins. Lord Ganesha is known by various names some of are like Ekadanta, God of limitless powers, Heramba (obstacles remover), Lambodara, Vinayaka, God of Gods, God of wisdom, God of wealth and prosperity and many more. People see off the Ganesha on 11th day (Anant chaturdashi) with complete Hindu ritual of Ganesha Visarjan. They pray to God to come back again in next year with lots of blessings.

Holi

Holi is a colourful and most important festival of the India. It is celebrated annually in the month of March (Falgun) on Purnima or pooranmashi by the people of Hindu religion. People wait for this festival very eagerly and enjoy by playing with colours and eating delicious foods. Children come out of their homes in the early morning with colours and pitchakri to enjoy with friends. Women of the houses started preparing needed things for the holi celebration like special and delicious dishes, sweets, chips, namkeen and other things to welcome their neighbours, friends and relatives at holi.

Holi is a festival of joy and happiness which spread real colour and pleasure in the life of everyone. People sprinkle real colours or colored powder (means gulal) to each other and break all the barriers of discrimination between them. The significance behind celebrating this festival is the great history of Prahlad and his aunt Holika. A long ago, there was a devil king, Hiranyakashyap. He was father of Prahlad and brother of Holika. He was booned by the Lord Brahma that he cannot be killed by any man or animal, neither any ashtra or sashtra, neither inside the home or outside and neither in the day or night. Getting such power he became very arrogant and ordered everyone including his own son to worship him instead of God as he is a real God.

Because of his fear, people started worshiping him except Prahlad as he was a true devotee of Lord Vishnu. After seeing such type of behaviour of the Prahlad, Hiranyakashyap made a plan with sister Holika to kill Prahlad. He ordered his sister to sit in the fire by having Prahlad in her lap. Holika did so but unfortunately she burnt in the fire however Prahlad was not harmed and even not touched by the fire as he was under the protection and blessings of God. From then, Hindu people started celebrating that event as Holi festival after the name of Holika. This festival is celebrated to remember the victory of goodness over bad or devil power. In the night or evening, a day before the colourful holi, people burn a heap of wood and co-dung in the nearby areas in the myth of burning Holika.

Everyone enjoy this festival by singing, dancing, playing colours, hugging each other and eating delicious food. It is a Public holiday when all the schools, colleges, universities, offices, banks and other institutions becomes closed so that people can go to their home and fully enjoy this special festival.

Baisakhi

Baisakhi, observed on the 13th (or sometimes 14th) of April every year is one of the main festivals of Sikhs as well as Hindus though the reason for celebration varies to some extent for both these communities. Here is how this day is perceived and celebrated by people belonging to Hindu and Sikh religions.

Baisakhi Significance – For Hindu Community

The day of Baisakhi is said to be the first day of the traditional solar New Year. People from the Hindu community celebrate their New Year on this day by visiting temples, performing prayers, meeting and greeting their friends and relatives, having good food and dressing up in new clothes.

Harvest is complete and ready to be sold around this time and the farmers around the country celebrate the ripening season on this day. Baisakhi is known by different names in different parts of India however the way it is celebrated is almost the same. Here are the names this festival is known by in different Indian states:

Rongali Bihu in Assam

Maha Vishuva Sankranti in Odisha

Baisakhi Significance – For Sikh Community

Contrary to the common notion, Baisakhi is actually a Hindu festival. It is the Sikh guru, Guru Amar Das who chose it for the Sikhs along with other two festivals – Diwali and Makar Sankranti. Just as in Hinduism, Baisakhi marks the beginning of the New Year in Sikhism also and hence it is a day for celebration.

Apart from this, Baisakhi is also celebrated as a harvest festival in Punjab as the Rabi crop ripens around this time in the Punjab region. The farmers thank God for the harvest and also pray for abundance in future.

This day is also special for the Sikhs as it marked the beginning of the Sikh order after the execution of the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur who declined the Mughal Emperor Auangzeb’s order to convert to Islam. This was followed by the coronation of their tenth Guru and the formation of the Khalsa Panth.

Janmashtami

Janmashtami is a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Krishna. Janmashtami is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Sri Krishna.

Krishna Janmashtami is also known as Sri Krishna Jayanti, Krishnashtami, Gokulashtami and sometimes simply as Janmashtami.

Hindus observed this festival to celebrate the birthday of their beloved God Sri Krishna.

The birth of Lord Krishna marks the end of inhumanity and cruelty over mankind.

Krishna is a symbol of righteousness. Sri Krishna was born at mid-night of this day.

Krishna Janmashtami is observed on the Ashtamitithi, the eighth day of the dark half or Krishna Paksha of the month of Shraavana.

He is considered as an avatar of the God Vishnu. The day is celebrated with great zeal and devotion.

The Lord Krishna devotees observe fast for the entire day and night, worshipping him. Temples of Sri Krishna are beautifully decorated.

Thousands of Hindu men and women wear new clothes and gather in these temples to celebrate the birthday of their beloved God.

The priest chants mantras and worship Lord Sri Krishna. Some temples also conduct readings of the Hindu religious scripture Bhagavad Gita.

Religious plays or Raslilas are performed to recreate events from the life of Lord Krishna.

Janmashtami is one such festival that is celebrated equally in North and South India. Different parts of the country celebrate the festival differently.

Janmaashtami or Gokulashtami, popularly known in Mumbai and Pune as DahiHandi, is celebrated as an event which involves making a human pyramid and breaking an earthen pot (handi) filled with buttermilk (dahi), which is tied at a convenient height.

The town of Dwarka in Gujarat which is Krishna’s own land witnesses hordes of visitors gathering here for celebrations.

Places in Uttar Pradesh that are associated with Krishna’s childhood, such as Mathura, Gokul and Vrindavan, attract visitors from all over India, who go there to participate in the festival celebrations.

Raksha Bandhan

Introduction

Raksha Bandhan is celebrated in many parts of India as well as its adjoining countries such as Nepal and Pakistan. It is a festival that symbolizes unity and strength and rejoices the power of familial ties. This one day is particularly dedicated to celebrate the brother sister relationship which is one of the most special relationships in the world. The festival is being celebrated since ancient times.

Raksha Bandhan: Historical References

Several folklores have been presented on how this festival came into being and the significance it held for various famous personalities. Here are some of the historical references of the festival:

Alexander the Great

It is said that when Alexamder invaded India, his wife was extremely anxious about his well-being. She sent a sacred thread to Porus, requesting him not to harm Alexander. Keeping with the tradition, Porus refrained from attacking Alexander during the battle. He respected the Rakhi sent by Roxana. This event dates back 326 BCE.

Rani Karnavati

The legend of Rani Karnavati and Emperor Humayun also emphasises the significance of this sacred ritual. It is said that Rani Karnavati of Chittor, who was a widowed queen, asked for Emperor Humayun’s help by sending him Rakhi. She did so when she realised that she could not save her kingdom from Bahadur Shah all by herself. Humayun respected the rakhi and sent his troops to fight against all odds and save Chittor.

Another Festival That Celebrates Brother Sister Bond

Just like Raksha Bandhan, Bhai Duj is another festival that is celebrated to strengthen and rejoice the brother sister bond. The sisters apply tilak on their brothers’ forehead on this day and pray for their well being. The brothers pledge to be by their sisters’ side at all times. They exchange sweets and the brothers present their sisters with gifts. People dress up in ethnic wear to add to the spirit of the festival. It is not just a time to bond with ones brothers and sisters but also with other family members.

Dussehra

Dussehra festival is one of the most significant and longest festivals of the India. It is celebrated every year with full enthusiasm, faith, love and honour by the people of Hindu religion all over the country. It is really the great time to enjoy by all. Students also get holidays for many days from their schools and colleges to fully enjoy the festival of Dussehra. This festival falls two or three weeks earlier to the Diwali every year in the month of September or October. People wait for this festival to occur with huge patience.

India is a country which is very famous for its culture and tradition, fair and festivals. It is a country of fairs and festivals where people celebrate and enjoy every festival with great joy and faith. The festival of Dussehra has been declared by the government of India as the gazetted holiday to allow people to fully enjoy this festival as well as giving importance to the Hindu festival. The meaning of Dussehra is the victory of Lord Rama over the ten headed demon king Ravana. The real meaning of the word Dussehra is the defeat of ten headed (Dus head) demon on tenth day of this festival. Tenth day of this festival is celebrated by burning the Ravana clones by the people all over the country.

There are many myths related to this festival according to the customs and traditions of the people in many regions of the country. This festival was started celebrating by the people of Hindu religion from the day Lord Rama had killed the demon king Ravana on the day of Dussehra (means 10th day of Ashwayuja month of Hindu calendar). Lord Rama had killed Ravana because he had kidnapped the Mata Seeta and was not agree to return her to the Lord Rama. Lord Rama had won the war with Ravana by the help of younger brother Lakshman and Vanar soldier of Hanuman.

According to the Hindu Scripture, Ramayana, it is mentioned that Lord Ram had performed Chandi Hom to make goddess Durga happy and get blessings. In this way Lord Rama, got victory by knowing the secret of Ravana’s killing on 10th day of the war. Finally, he retained his wife Seeta safely after killing the Ravana. Dussehra festival is also known as the Durgotsav because it is considered that on the same day another demon called Mahishasura was killed by the Mata Durga on the tenth day. A huge fair of Ramlila takes place in the Ram-Lila ground where people from nearby regions come to see the fair and dramatic representation of the ramlila.

Durga Puja

Introduction

Durga Puja is a religious festival during which a ceremonial worship of goddess Durga is performed. It is an important festival of India. It is a traditional occasion which reunites people into the one Indian culture and customs. Varieties of rituals are performed all through the ten days of festival such as fast, feast and worship. People perform statue immersion and Kanya pujan in the last four days which car called as Saptami, Ashtami, Navami and Dashami. People worship a ten-armed goddess riding the lion with great enthusiasm, passion and devotion.

Story and Legends of Durga Puja

There are various stories and legends of Durga puja which are mentioned below:

It is considered as, once there was a demon king, Mahishasura, who was ready to attack on Gods of heaven. He was too powerful to defeat from God. Then an eternal power was created by the Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh which was named as Durga (a magnificent woman having ten hands with special weapons in each). She was given eternal power to destroy demon Mahishasura. Finally She killed that demon on tenth day called as Dussehra or Vijayadashami.

Another legend behind Durga puja is Lord Rama. According to the Ramayana, Ram had performed a chandi-puja in order to get blessings of mata Durga to kill Ravana. Rama had killed Ravana on tenth day of Durga puja called as Dussehra or Vijayadashami. So, Durga puja is the symbol of victory of goodness over evil power forever.

Once Kautsa (son of Devdatt) has decided to offer gurudakshina to his guru named Varatantu after completing his education however he was asked to pay 14 crore gold coins (one for each 14 sciences he studied there). In order to get the same he went to the king Raghuraj (ancestor of Rama) however he was unable because of the Vishvajit sacrifice. So, Kautsa went to Lord Indra and he again summoned Kuber (god of wealth) to rain the required gold coins over “shanu” and “apati” trees in Ayodhya. In this way, Kautsa got gold coins to offer to his guru. That event is still remembered through a custom of looting leaves of the “apati” trees. At this day, people gift these leaves to each other as a gold coin.

Significance of Durga Puja

The festival of Navaratri or Durga puja has various significances. The meaning of Navaratri is nine nights. Tenth day is known as Vijayadashami or Dussehra. It is the day when goddess Durga got victory over a demon after nine days and nine nights long battle. Goddess Durga is worshipped by the people to get strength and blessings. Worshipping Goddess Durga helps devotees to remove negative energy and negative thoughts as well as get the peaceful life. It is celebrated to commemorate the victory of Lord Rama over evil Ravana. People celebrate this festival by burning the big statue of Ravana and fireworks at night of Dussehra.

Diwali

Diwali festival is well known as the festival of lights which brings a lot of beliefs and culture to celebrate it. It has many importance and significance for people of Jain, Hindu and Sikh religions. It is the five days celebration which falls every year 21 days after Dusshera. It has great cultural belief of celebrating behind. It is the returning day of the Lord Rama to his kingdom, Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. People of Ayodhya had welcomed their King Rama by enlightening lamps everywhere and burning fire crackers.

People clean up and white wash their houses, offices and working places at Diwali festival. People belief that lighting lamps everywhere and opening all the doors and windows of the home or offices makes the way of Goddess Lakshmi to come to the houses to visit and give blessings, wealth and prosperity. People make rangolis and decorate their houses to welcome their relatives and guests.

People wear new clothes, eat delicious foods, sweets, burn crackers and share gifts to each other. The five days celebrations of Diwali festival includes:

First day is known as Dhanteras or Dhantrayodashi which is celebrated by worshiping the Goddess Lakshmi. People sing aarti, devotional songs and mantras to make happy the Goddess.

Second day is known as the Naraka Chaturdashi or Chhoti Diwali which is celebrated by worshiping Lord Krishna as he had killed the demon king Narkasur. It has religious belief of taking bath with oil in the early morning and worshiping Goddess Kali by applying Kumkum on the forehead.

Third day is known as main Diwali day which is celebrated by worshiping Goddess Lakshmi, distributing sweets and gifts among relatives, friends, neighbors and burning fire crackers in the evening.

Fourth day is known as Govardhan puja by worshiping Lord Krishna. People make Govardhan of cow dung at their doorstep and worship. It is considered that Lord Krishna had lifted the Govardhan Parvat at his little finger to save the life people from Gokul from the unnatural rain by the God of rain, Indra.

Fifth day is known as Yama Dwitiya or Bhaiya Dooj which is celebrated by brothers and sisters. Sisters invite their brothers to celebrate the festival of  at their home.

The burning of fire crackers takes place in the night after Puja of Goddess Lakshmi. AT this day people exclude their bad habits and include good habits to get blessings for the whole year. At some places in India the day of Diwali is the start of new year. Businessmen starts their new accounts books at this day.

Diwali is the most favorite festival for all as it brings a lot of blessings and happiness. It indicates the victory of God over the evil power as well as start of new season. Because of the many reasons people celebrate it heartily with lots of preparations.

Christmas 

Christmas is the festival of great importance for the Christians however it is celebrated by the people of other religions also. It is celebrated every year with great joy, happiness and enthusiasm like other festivals throughout the world. It falls every year on 25th of December in the winter season. Christmas Day is celebrated on the anniversary of the Jesus Christ. On 25th of December, Jesus Christ was born to the Joseph (father) and Mary (mother) in the Bethlehem.

All the houses and churches are cleaned, white washed and decorated with lots of colourful light, sceneries, candles, flowers, and other decorative things. Everyone get together (whether they are poor or rich) and enjoy this festival with lots of activities. People make a Christmas tree at this day in the mid of their home. They decorate it with electric lights, gifts items, balloons, colourful flowers, toys, green leaves and other materials. Christmas tree looks very attractive and beautiful. People invite their friends, relatives and neighbours to join the celebration in front of the Christmas tree. People get together, dance, sing, distribute gifts, and enjoy eating delicious dinner.

People of Christian religion pray to the God. They confess in front of their Jesus Christ about their sins and sufferings. People sing holy songs in the praise of their Lord Jesus. Later they distribute Christmas gifts to their guests and children. There is a trend of giving Christmas greetings or other beautiful Christmas cards to the friends and relatives. Everyone involve in the great celebration of Christmas feast and eat delicious dinner with family members and friends. Children of the home wait for this day very eagerly as they get lots of gifts and chocolates. Christmas celebration also takes place in the schools and colleges a day before means on 24th of December when students go to school wearing Santa dress or Christmas cap.

People enjoy this festival late night by dancing and singing in the party or in the malls and restaurants. People of Christian religion worship their God, Jesus Christ. It is considered that Jesus (the Son of God) was sent to people on the earth to save their lives and protect them from their sins and sadness. People of the Christian religion celebrate this festival of Christmas to remember the great works of the Jesus and give lots of love and respect. It is a public and religious holiday when almost all the government and non-government organizations become closed.

गणेश चतुर्थी

 लोग गणेश चतुर्थी मनाते हुए भगवान गणेश (विग्नेश्वर) की पूजा करते हैं।  गणेश हिंदू धर्म में सबसे लोकप्रिय देवता हैं जिनकी परिवार के प्रत्येक सदस्य द्वारा पूजा की जाती है।  किसी भी क्षेत्र में कोई भी नया काम शुरू करने से पहले लोग हमेशा उनकी पूजा करते हैं।  यह त्योहार विशेष रूप से महाराष्ट्र राज्य में मनाया जाता है, हालांकि अब लगभग सभी राज्यों में मनाया जाने लगा है।  यह हिंदू धर्म का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण त्योहार है।  गणेश चतुर्थी पर लोग ज्ञान और समृद्धि के देवता की पूरी श्रद्धा और आस्था के साथ पूजा करते हैं।

 लोगों की मान्यता है कि गणेश हर साल ढेर सारी खुशियां और समृद्धि लेकर आते हैं और सभी कष्टों को दूर करने के बाद चले जाते हैं।  गणेश जी को प्रसन्न करने के लिए भक्त इस पर्व पर तरह-तरह की तैयारियां करते हैं।  यह गणेशजी के स्वागत और सम्मान के लिए उनकी जयंती के रूप में मनाया जाता है।  यह त्योहार भाद्रपद (अगस्त या सितंबर) के महीने में शुक्ल पक्ष में चतुर्थी को शुरू होता है और अनंत चतुर्दशी पर 11 वें दिन समाप्त होता है।  हिंदू धर्म में गणेश जी की पूजा का बहुत महत्व है।  ऐसा माना जाता है कि जो कोई पूरी श्रद्धा और विश्वास के साथ उनकी पूजा करता है, उसे सुख, ज्ञान, धन और लंबी उम्र का आशीर्वाद प्राप्त होता है।

 लोग गणेश चतुर्थी के दिन सुबह जल्दी स्नान करते हैं, साफ कपड़े पहनकर भगवान की पूजा करते हैं।  वे बहुत सी चीजें चढ़ाते हैं और मंत्र, आरती गीत और भक्ति गीत गाकर भगवान से प्रार्थना करते हैं और हिंदू धर्म के अन्य अनुष्ठान करते हैं।  पहले यह त्यौहार कुछ परिवारों में ही मनाया जाता था।  बाद में इसे एक बड़ा अवसर बनाने के साथ-साथ कष्टों से मुक्त होने के लिए मूर्ति स्थापना और मूर्ति विसर्जन की रस्म के साथ उत्सव के रूप में मनाया जाने लगा।  इसे 1893 में लोकमान्य तिलक (एक समाज सुधारक, भारतीय राष्ट्रवादी और स्वतंत्रता सेनानी) द्वारा एक त्योहार के रूप में शुरू किया गया था। उस समय उन्होंने ब्रिटिश शासन के खिलाफ भारतीयों की रक्षा के लिए गणेश की पूजा करने की एक रस्म बनाई थी।

 आजकल, गणेश चतुर्थी को ब्राह्मणों और गैर-ब्राह्मणों के लोगों के बीच असमानता को दूर करने के लिए एक राष्ट्रीय त्योहार के रूप में मनाया जाता है।  भगवान गणेश को विभिन्न नामों से जाना जाता है, जिनमें से कुछ एकदंत, असीम शक्तियों के देवता, हेरम्बा (बाधाओं को दूर करने वाले), लम्बोदरा, विनायक, देवताओं के देवता, ज्ञान के देवता, धन और समृद्धि के देवता और कई अन्य हैं।  लोग 11 वें दिन (अनंत चतुर्दशी) को गणेश विसर्जन के पूरे हिंदू अनुष्ठान के साथ देखते हैं।  वे भगवान से प्रार्थना करते हैं कि अगले साल फिर से ढेर सारी आशीषों के साथ वापस आएं।

 होली

 होली भारत का एक रंगीन और सबसे महत्वपूर्ण त्योहार है।  यह हिंदू धर्म के लोगों द्वारा पूर्णिमा या पूरनमाशी पर मार्च (फाल्गुन) के महीने में प्रतिवर्ष मनाया जाता है।  लोग इस त्योहार का बहुत बेसब्री से इंतजार करते हैं और रंगों से खेलकर और स्वादिष्ट भोजन खाकर इसका आनंद लेते हैं।  बच्चे सुबह-सुबह अपने घरों से रंग और पिचकारी लेकर दोस्तों के साथ आनंद लेने के लिए निकलते हैं।  घरों की महिलाएं होली के उत्सव के लिए आवश्यक चीजें जैसे विशेष और स्वादिष्ट व्यंजन, मिठाई, चिप्स, नमकीन और अन्य चीजें अपने पड़ोसियों, दोस्तों और रिश्तेदारों का होली पर स्वागत करने के लिए तैयार करना शुरू कर देती हैं।

 होली खुशियों और खुशियों का त्योहार है जो सबके जीवन में असली रंग और खुशियां बिखेरता है।  लोग एक दूसरे पर असली रंग या रंगीन पाउडर (अर्थात गुलाल) छिड़कते हैं और उनके बीच भेदभाव की सभी बाधाओं को तोड़ते हैं।  इस त्योहार को मनाने के पीछे का महत्व प्रह्लाद और उसकी बुआ होलिका का महान इतिहास है।  बहुत समय पहले, एक शैतान राजा हिरण्यकश्यप था।  वह प्रह्लाद के पिता और होलिका के भाई थे।  उन्हें भगवान ब्रह्मा ने वरदान दिया था कि उन्हें न तो कोई आदमी या जानवर, न ही कोई अस्त्र या शास्त्र, न घर के अंदर या बाहर और न ही दिन या रात में मारा जा सकता है।  ऐसी शक्ति पाकर वह बहुत अहंकारी हो गया और उसने अपने पुत्र सहित सभी को आदेश दिया कि वह भगवान के बजाय उसकी पूजा करें क्योंकि वह एक वास्तविक भगवान है।

 उसके डर के कारण, लोग प्रह्लाद को छोड़कर उसकी पूजा करने लगे क्योंकि वह भगवान विष्णु का सच्चा भक्त था।  प्रह्लाद के इस प्रकार के व्यवहार को देखकर हिरण्यकश्यप ने बहन होलिका के साथ प्रह्लाद को मारने की योजना बनाई।  उसने अपनी बहन को आदेश दिया की वह प्रह्लाद को गोद में लेकर आग में बैठ जाए।  होलिका ने ऐसा किया लेकिन दुर्भाग्य से वह आग में जल गई, लेकिन प्रह्लाद को कोई नुकसान नहीं हुआ और यहां तक ​​कि आग से छुआ तक नहीं गया क्योंकि वह भगवान के संरक्षण और आशीर्वाद के अधीन था।  तब से, हिंदू लोग उस घटना को होलिका के नाम पर होली के त्योहार के रूप में मनाने लगे।  यह त्योहार बुराई या शैतान शक्ति पर अच्छाई की जीत को याद करने के लिए मनाया जाता है।  रंग-बिरंगी होली से एक दिन पहले रात हो या शाम, लोग होलिका जलाने की मिथक में आस-पास के इलाकों में लकड़ी का ढेर और सह-गोबर जलाते हैं।

 हर कोई गाकर, नाचकर, रंग खेलकर, एक-दूसरे को गले लगाकर और स्वादिष्ट खाना खाकर इस त्योहार का आनंद लेता है।  यह एक सार्वजनिक अवकाश है जब सभी स्कूल, कॉलेज, विश्वविद्यालय, कार्यालय, बैंक और अन्य संस्थान बंद हो जाते हैं ताकि लोग अपने घर जा सकें और इस विशेष त्योहार का पूरा आनंद उठा सकें।

 बैसाखी

 बैसाखी, हर साल अप्रैल की 13वीं (या कभी-कभी 14वीं) को मनाई जाती है, सिखों के साथ-साथ हिंदुओं के मुख्य त्योहारों में से एक है, हालांकि उत्सव का कारण इन दोनों समुदायों के लिए कुछ हद तक भिन्न होता है।  यहां बताया गया है कि इस दिन को हिंदू और सिख धर्मों के लोगों द्वारा कैसे माना और मनाया जाता है।

 बैसाखी का महत्व - हिंदू समुदाय के लिए

 बैसाखी के दिन को पारंपरिक सौर नव वर्ष का पहला दिन कहा जाता है।  हिंदू समुदाय के लोग इस दिन अपना नया साल मंदिरों में जाकर, पूजा-अर्चना करके, अपने दोस्तों और रिश्तेदारों से मिल कर अभिवादन करके, अच्छा खाना खाकर और नए कपड़े पहनकर मनाते हैं।

 फसल पूरी हो चुकी है और इस समय के आसपास बिकने के लिए तैयार है और देश भर के किसान इस दिन पकने के मौसम का जश्न मनाते हैं।  बैसाखी को भारत के अलग-अलग हिस्सों में अलग-अलग नामों से जाना जाता है लेकिन इसे मनाने का तरीका लगभग एक जैसा ही है।  इस त्योहार को विभिन्न भारतीय राज्यों में जिन नामों से जाना जाता है, वे इस प्रकार हैं:

 असम में रोंगाली बिहू

 ओडिशा में महा विशुव संक्रांति

 पश्चिम बंगाल और त्रिपुरा में पोहेला बोइशाख या नबा बरशा

 आंध्र प्रदेश, तेलंगाना और कर्नाटक में उगादी

 तुलु लोगों के बीच बिसु

 कुमाऊं, उत्तराखंड में बिखू या बिखौती

 इनमें से कुछ उसी दिन बैसाखी के रूप में मनाई जाती हैं जबकि अन्य एक या दो दिन बाद मनाई जाती हैं।

 बैसाखी का महत्व - सिख समुदाय के लिए

 आम धारणा के विपरीत, बैसाखी वास्तव में एक हिंदू त्योहार है।  यह सिख गुरु, गुरु अमर दास हैं जिन्होंने इसे अन्य दो त्योहारों - दिवाली और मकर संक्रांति के साथ सिखों के लिए चुना है।  हिंदू धर्म की तरह, बैसाखी सिख धर्म में भी नए साल की शुरुआत का प्रतीक है और इसलिए यह उत्सव का दिन है।

 इसके अलावा, बैसाखी को पंजाब में फसल उत्सव के रूप में भी मनाया जाता है क्योंकि इस समय पंजाब क्षेत्र में रबी की फसल पकती है।  किसान फसल के लिए भगवान का शुक्रिया अदा करते हैं और भविष्य में बहुतायत के लिए प्रार्थना भी करते हैं।

 यह दिन सिखों के लिए भी विशेष है क्योंकि इसने सिखों के नौवें गुरु, गुरु तेग बहादुर की फांसी के बाद सिख आदेश की शुरुआत को चिह्नित किया, जिन्होंने मुगल सम्राट औरंगजेब के इस्लाम में परिवर्तित होने के आदेश को अस्वीकार कर दिया था।  इसके बाद उनके दसवें गुरु का राज्याभिषेक हुआ और खालसा पंथ की स्थापना हुई।

 जन्माष्टमी

 जन्माष्टमी कृष्ण के जन्म का जश्न मनाने वाला एक हिंदू त्योहार है।  जन्माष्टमी को भगवान श्रीकृष्ण के जन्मदिन के रूप में मनाया जाता है।

 कृष्ण जन्माष्टमी को श्री कृष्ण जयंती, कृष्णष्टमी, गोकुलाष्टमी और कभी-कभी केवल जन्माष्टमी के रूप में भी जाना जाता है।

 हिंदुओं ने अपने प्रिय भगवान श्रीकृष्ण के जन्मदिन को मनाने के लिए इस त्योहार को मनाया।

 भगवान कृष्ण का जन्म मानव जाति पर अमानवीयता और क्रूरता के अंत का प्रतीक है।

 कृष्ण धार्मिकता के प्रतीक हैं।  श्रीकृष्ण का जन्म इसी दिन मध्यरात्रि में हुआ था।

 कृष्ण जन्माष्टमी श्रावण मास के कृष्ण पक्ष की अष्टमी या अष्टमी तिथि को मनाई जाती है।

 उन्हें भगवान विष्णु का अवतार माना जाता है।  इस दिन को बहुत जोश और भक्ति के साथ मनाया जाता है।

 भगवान कृष्ण के भक्त उनकी पूजा करते हुए पूरे दिन और रात उपवास रखते हैं।  श्रीकृष्ण के मंदिरों को खूबसूरती से सजाया गया है।

 हजारों हिंदू पुरुष और महिलाएं नए कपड़े पहनते हैं और इन मंदिरों में अपने प्यारे भगवान का जन्मदिन मनाने के लिए इकट्ठा होते हैं।

 पुजारी मंत्रों का जाप करते हैं और भगवान श्रीकृष्ण की पूजा करते हैं।  कुछ मंदिर हिंदू धार्मिक ग्रंथ भगवद गीता का पाठ भी करते हैं।

 भगवान कृष्ण के जीवन से घटनाओं को फिर से बनाने के लिए धार्मिक नाटक या रासलीला का प्रदर्शन किया जाता है।

 जन्माष्टमी एक ऐसा त्योहार है जिसे उत्तर और दक्षिण भारत में समान रूप से मनाया जाता है।  देश के अलग-अलग हिस्सों में अलग-अलग तरीके से त्योहार मनाया जाता है।

 जन्माष्टमी या गोकुलाष्टमी, जिसे मुंबई और पुणे में दहीहांडी के नाम से जाना जाता है, को एक ऐसी घटना के रूप में मनाया जाता है जिसमें मानव पिरामिड बनाना और छाछ (दही) से भरे मिट्टी के बर्तन (हांडी) को तोड़ना शामिल है, जिसे सुविधाजनक ऊंचाई पर बांधा जाता है।

 रक्षाबंधन

 रक्षा बंधन भारत के कई हिस्सों के साथ-साथ इसके आसपास के देशों जैसे नेपाल और पाकिस्तान में भी मनाया जाता है।  यह एक ऐसा त्योहार है जो एकता और ताकत का प्रतीक है और पारिवारिक संबंधों की शक्ति का आनंद उठाता है।  यह एक दिन विशेष रूप से भाई बहन के रिश्ते को मनाने के लिए समर्पित है जो दुनिया के सबसे खास रिश्तों में से एक है।  यह पर्व प्राचीन काल से मनाया जा रहा है।

 रक्षा बंधन: ऐतिहासिक संदर्भ

 यह त्योहार कैसे अस्तित्व में आया और विभिन्न प्रसिद्ध हस्तियों के लिए इसका क्या महत्व है, इस पर कई लोककथाओं को प्रस्तुत किया गया है।  यहाँ त्योहार के कुछ ऐतिहासिक संदर्भ दिए गए हैं:

 सिकंदर महान

 ऐसा कहा जाता है कि जब अलेक्सामदार ने भारत पर आक्रमण किया, तो उसकी पत्नी उसकी भलाई के लिए बेहद चिंतित थी।  उसने पोरस को एक पवित्र धागा भेजा, जिसमें अनुरोध किया गया कि वह सिकंदर को नुकसान न पहुंचाए।  परंपरा का पालन करते हुए पोरस ने युद्ध के दौरान सिकंदर पर हमला करने से परहेज किया।  उन्होंने रोक्साना द्वारा भेजी राखी का सम्मान किया।  यह घटना 326 ईसा पूर्व की है।

 रानी कर्णावती

 रानी कर्णावती और सम्राट हुमायूँ की कथा भी इस पवित्र अनुष्ठान के महत्व पर जोर देती है।  ऐसा कहा जाता है कि चित्तौड़ की रानी कर्णावती, जो एक विधवा रानी थी, ने सम्राट हुमायूँ को राखी भेजकर उसकी मदद मांगी।  उसने ऐसा तब किया जब उसने महसूस किया कि वह अपने राज्य को बहादुर शाह से अकेले नहीं बचा सकती।  हुमायूँ ने राखी का सम्मान किया और अपने सैनिकों को सभी बाधाओं से लड़ने और चित्तौड़ को बचाने के लिए भेजा।

 रक्षा बंधन के लिए सही उपहार का चयन

 इस समय बाजार में तरह-तरह के तोहफों की भरमार है।  कपड़ों से लेकर जूते-चप्पल से लेकर एक्सेसरीज से लेकर होम डेकोर आइटम्स तक- इनमें से हर एक में इतनी वैरायटी है कि इनमें से किसी एक को चुनना मुश्किल हो जाता है।  भाई अक्सर भ्रमित होते हैं कि अपनी बहनों को क्या उपहार दें क्योंकि यह एक कठिन विकल्प है।  वे अक्सर अपनी बहनों के चेहरे पर मुस्कान लाने के लिए सही उपहार की तलाश में बाजार में घूमते हैं।  इस त्योहार के दौरान सही उपहार चुनना वाकई एक बड़ा काम है।

 इसलिए यह केवल महिलाएं ही नहीं हैं जो बाजार में आती हैं और उस समय के दौरान अंतहीन खरीदारी करती हैं, पुरुष भी अपनी प्यारी बहनों के लिए उपहार की तलाश में अच्छा समय लगाते हैं।

 एक और त्यौहार जो भाई बहन के बंधन को मनाता है

 रक्षा बंधन की तरह, भाई दूज एक और त्योहार है जो भाई बहन के बंधन को मजबूत करने और खुश करने के लिए मनाया जाता है।  बहनें इस दिन अपने भाइयों के माथे पर तिलक लगाती हैं और उनकी सलामती की कामना करती हैं।  भाइयों ने हर समय अपनी बहनों के साथ रहने का संकल्प लिया।  वे मिठाइयों का आदान-प्रदान करते हैं और भाई अपनी बहनों को उपहार भेंट करते हैं।  त्योहार की भावना को जोड़ने के लिए लोग एथनिक परिधान पहनते हैं।  यह न केवल अपने भाइयों और बहनों के साथ बल्कि परिवार के अन्य सदस्यों के साथ बंधने का समय है।

 दशहरा

 दशहरा त्योहार भारत के सबसे महत्वपूर्ण और सबसे लंबे त्योहारों में से एक है।  यह हर साल पूरे देश में हिंदू धर्म के लोगों द्वारा पूरे उत्साह, विश्वास, प्रेम और सम्मान के साथ मनाया जाता है।  यह वास्तव में सभी का आनंद लेने का बहुत अच्छा समय है।  छात्रों को दशहरे के त्योहार का पूरा आनंद लेने के लिए अपने स्कूल और कॉलेजों से कई दिनों की छुट्टियां भी मिलती हैं।  यह त्योहार हर साल सितंबर या अक्टूबर के महीने में दिवाली से दो या तीन सप्ताह पहले आता है।  लोग बड़े धैर्य के साथ इस त्योहार के होने का इंतजार करते हैं।

 भारत एक ऐसा देश है जो अपनी संस्कृति और परंपरा, मेले और त्योहारों के लिए बहुत प्रसिद्ध है।  यह मेलों और त्योहारों का देश है जहां लोग हर त्योहार को बहुत खुशी और विश्वास के साथ मनाते हैं और आनंद लेते हैं।  भारत सरकार द्वारा दशहरे के त्यौहार को राजपत्रित अवकाश के रूप में घोषित किया गया है ताकि लोग इस त्यौहार का पूरी तरह से आनंद ले सकें और साथ ही हिंदू त्योहार को महत्व दे सकें।  दशहरा का अर्थ दस सिर वाले राक्षस राजा रावण पर भगवान राम की जीत है।  दशहरा शब्द का वास्तविक अर्थ इस पर्व के दसवें दिन दस सिर (दस सिर) दानव की हार है।  इस त्योहार का दसवां दिन पूरे देश में लोगों द्वारा रावण के क्लोन को जलाकर मनाया जाता है।

 देश के कई क्षेत्रों में लोगों के रीति-रिवाजों और परंपराओं के अनुसार इस त्योहार से जुड़े कई मिथक हैं।  यह त्योहार हिंदू धर्म के लोगों द्वारा उस दिन से मनाया जाना शुरू किया गया था जब भगवान राम ने दशहरा के दिन राक्षस राजा रावण का वध किया था (अर्थात हिंदू कैलेंडर के अश्वयुजा महीने का 10 वां दिन)।  भगवान राम ने रावण को मार डाला था क्योंकि उसने माता सीता का अपहरण कर लिया था और वह उसे भगवान राम को वापस करने के लिए सहमत नहीं थे।  भगवान राम ने छोटे भाई लक्ष्मण और हनुमान के वानर सैनिक की मदद से रावण के साथ युद्ध जीता था।

 हिंदू शास्त्र, रामायण के अनुसार, यह उल्लेख किया गया है कि भगवान राम ने देवी दुर्गा को खुश करने और आशीर्वाद प्राप्त करने के लिए चंडी होम किया था।  इस प्रकार भगवान राम ने युद्ध के दसवें दिन रावण के वध का रहस्य जानकर विजय प्राप्त की।  अंत में, उन्होंने रावण को मारकर अपनी पत्नी सीता को सुरक्षित रख लिया।  दशहरा उत्सव को दुर्गोत्सव के रूप में भी जाना जाता है क्योंकि ऐसा माना जाता है कि उसी दिन दसवें दिन माता दुर्गा द्वारा महिषासुर नामक एक अन्य राक्षस का वध किया गया था।  रामलीला मैदान में रामलीला का एक विशाल मेला लगता है जहाँ आसपास के क्षेत्रों के लोग रामलीला के निष्पक्ष और नाटकीय प्रतिनिधित्व को देखने आते हैं।

 दुर्गा पूजा

 दुर्गा पूजा एक धार्मिक त्योहार है जिसके दौरान देवी दुर्गा की औपचारिक पूजा की जाती है।  यह भारत का एक महत्वपूर्ण त्योहार है।  यह एक पारंपरिक अवसर है जो लोगों को एक भारतीय संस्कृति और रीति-रिवाजों में फिर से जोड़ता है।  त्योहार के दस दिनों के दौरान उपवास, दावत और पूजा जैसे विभिन्न प्रकार के अनुष्ठान किए जाते हैं।  लोग अंतिम चार दिनों में मूर्ति विसर्जन और कन्या पूजन करते हैं जिसे सप्तमी, अष्टमी, नवमी और दशमी कहा जाता है।  लोग बड़े उत्साह, जोश और भक्ति के साथ शेर की सवारी करने वाली दस भुजाओं वाली देवी की पूजा करते हैं।

 दुर्गा पूजा की कहानी और किंवदंतियां

 दुर्गा पूजा की विभिन्न कहानियां और किंवदंतियां हैं जिनका उल्लेख नीचे किया गया है:

 ऐसा माना जाता है कि, एक बार एक राक्षस राजा महिषासुर था, जो स्वर्ग के देवताओं पर हमला करने के लिए तैयार था।  वह परमेश्वर से पराजित करने के लिए बहुत शक्तिशाली था।  तब ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और महेश द्वारा एक शाश्वत शक्ति का निर्माण किया गया था जिसे दुर्गा (प्रत्येक में विशेष हथियारों के साथ दस हाथ वाली एक शानदार महिला) नाम दिया गया था।  महिषासुर राक्षस को नष्ट करने के लिए उसे अनन्त शक्ति दी गई थी।  अंत में उसने दसवें दिन उस राक्षस को मार डाला जिसे दशहरा या विजयदशमी कहा जाता है।

 दुर्गा पूजा के पीछे एक और किंवदंती भगवान राम हैं।  रामायण के अनुसार, रावण को मारने के लिए माता दुर्गा का आशीर्वाद पाने के लिए राम ने चंडी-पूजा की थी।  राम ने दशहरा या विजयदशमी नामक दुर्गा पूजा के दसवें दिन रावण का वध किया था।  तो, दुर्गा पूजा हमेशा के लिए बुरी शक्ति पर अच्छाई की जीत का प्रतीक है।

 एक बार कौत्स (देवदत्त के पुत्र) ने अपनी शिक्षा पूरी करने के बाद अपने गुरु वारतंतु को गुरुदक्षिणा देने का फैसला किया, हालांकि उन्हें 14 करोड़ सोने के सिक्के (प्रत्येक 14 विज्ञानों के लिए एक उन्होंने वहां अध्ययन किया) का भुगतान करने के लिए कहा गया था।  उसे पाने के लिए वह राजा रघुराज (राम के पूर्वज) के पास गया, लेकिन वह विश्वजीत बलिदान के कारण असमर्थ था।  इसलिए, कौत्स भगवान इंद्र के पास गए और उन्होंने फिर से कुबेर (धन के देवता) को अयोध्या में "शनु" और "अपति" पेड़ों पर आवश्यक सोने के सिक्कों की बारिश करने के लिए बुलाया।  इस तरह कौत्स को अपने गुरु को चढ़ाने के लिए सोने के सिक्के मिले।  उस घटना को आज भी "अपाती" पेड़ों की पत्तियों को लूटने की प्रथा के माध्यम से याद किया जाता है।  इस दिन लोग इन पत्तों को एक दूसरे को सोने के सिक्के के रूप में उपहार में देते हैं।

 दुर्गा पूजा का महत्व

 नवरात्रि या दुर्गा पूजा के त्योहार के विभिन्न महत्व हैं।  नवरात्रि का अर्थ है नौ रातें।  दसवें दिन को विजयदशमी या दशहरा के रूप में जाना जाता है।  यह वह दिन है जब देवी दुर्गा ने नौ दिन और नौ रात की लंबी लड़ाई के बाद एक राक्षस पर विजय प्राप्त की थी।  लोगों द्वारा शक्ति और आशीर्वाद पाने के लिए देवी दुर्गा की पूजा की जाती है।  देवी दुर्गा की पूजा करने से भक्तों को नकारात्मक ऊर्जा और नकारात्मक विचारों को दूर करने के साथ-साथ शांतिपूर्ण जीवन प्राप्त करने में मदद मिलती है।  यह बुराई रावण पर भगवान राम की जीत के उपलक्ष्य में मनाया जाता है।  लोग दशहरे की रात में रावण की बड़ी मूर्ति और आतिशबाजी जलाकर इस त्योहार को मनाते हैं।

 दिवाली

 दिवाली का त्योहार रोशनी के त्योहार के रूप में जाना जाता है जो इसे मनाने के लिए बहुत सारी मान्यताएं और संस्कृति लाता है।  जैन, हिंदू और सिख धर्म के लोगों के लिए इसका बहुत महत्व और महत्व है।  यह पांच दिनों का उत्सव है जो हर साल दशहरा के 21 दिन बाद आता है।  इसके पीछे जश्न मनाने की महान सांस्कृतिक मान्यता है।  यह 14 साल के वनवास के बाद भगवान राम के अपने राज्य अयोध्या लौटने का दिन है।  अयोध्या के लोगों ने अपने राजा राम का हर जगह दीप जलाकर और पटाखे जलाकर स्वागत किया था।

 दिवाली के त्योहार पर लोग अपने घरों, कार्यालयों और कार्यस्थलों की सफाई और सफेदी करते हैं।  लोगों का मानना ​​है कि हर जगह दीये जलाने और घर या कार्यालयों के सभी दरवाजे और खिड़कियां खोलने से देवी लक्ष्मी के घरों में आने और आशीर्वाद, धन और समृद्धि देने का रास्ता बनता है।  लोग अपने रिश्तेदारों और मेहमानों के स्वागत के लिए रंगोली बनाते हैं और अपने घरों को सजाते हैं।

 लोग नए कपड़े पहनते हैं, स्वादिष्ट भोजन करते हैं, मिठाई खाते हैं, पटाखे जलाते हैं और एक दूसरे को उपहार बांटते हैं।  दिवाली त्योहार के पांच दिनों के समारोह में शामिल हैं:

 पहले दिन को धनतेरस या धनत्रयोदशी के रूप में जाना जाता है जिसे देवी लक्ष्मी की पूजा करके मनाया जाता है।  लोग देवी को प्रसन्न करने के लिए आरती, भक्ति गीत और मंत्र गाते हैं।

 दूसरे दिन को नरक चतुर्दशी या छोटी दिवाली के रूप में जाना जाता है जिसे भगवान कृष्ण की पूजा करके मनाया जाता है क्योंकि उन्होंने राक्षस राजा नरकासुर का वध किया था।  प्रात:काल में तेल से स्नान करने और माथे पर कुमकुम लगाकर देवी काली की पूजा करने की धार्मिक मान्यता है।

 तीसरे दिन को मुख्य दिवाली दिवस के रूप में जाना जाता है, जिसे देवी लक्ष्मी की पूजा करके, रिश्तेदारों, दोस्तों, पड़ोसियों के बीच मिठाई और उपहार बांटकर और शाम को पटाखे जलाकर मनाया जाता है।

 चौथे दिन भगवान कृष्ण की पूजा करने से गोवर्धन पूजा के रूप में जाना जाता है।  लोग घर-द्वार पर गाय के गोबर का गोवर्धन बनाकर पूजा करते हैं।  ऐसा माना जाता है कि भगवान कृष्ण ने गोवर्धन पर्वत को अपनी छोटी उंगली पर उठा लिया था ताकि गोकुल से लोगों को अप्राकृतिक बारिश से बचाने के लिए वर्षा के देवता इंद्र द्वारा किया जा सके।

 पांचवें दिन को यम द्वितीया या भैया दूज के रूप में जाना जाता है जिसे भाइयों और बहनों द्वारा मनाया जाता है।  बहनें अपने भाइयों को अपने घर पर त्योहार मनाने के लिए आमंत्रित करती हैं।

 रात में देवी लक्ष्मी की पूजा के बाद पटाखों का दहन होता है।  इस दिन लोग अपनी बुरी आदतों को छोड़कर पूरे साल आशीर्वाद पाने के लिए अच्छी आदतों को शामिल करते हैं।  भारत में कुछ जगहों पर दिवाली के दिन से नए साल की शुरुआत होती है।  व्यवसायी इस दिन अपनी नई खाता बही शुरू करते हैं।

 दिवाली सभी के लिए सबसे पसंदीदा त्योहार है क्योंकि यह ढेर सारी खुशियां और खुशियां लेकर आता है।  यह दुष्ट शक्ति पर ईश्वर की जीत के साथ-साथ नए मौसम की शुरुआत का संकेत देता है।  कई कारणों से लोग इसे बहुत सारी तैयारियों के साथ दिल से मनाते हैं।

 क्रिसमस

 क्रिसमस ईसाइयों के लिए बहुत महत्व का त्योहार है हालांकि इसे अन्य धर्मों के लोगों द्वारा भी मनाया जाता है।  यह हर साल दुनिया भर में अन्य त्योहारों की तरह बहुत खुशी, खुशी और उत्साह के साथ मनाया जाता है।  यह हर साल 25 दिसंबर को सर्दी के मौसम में पड़ता है।  क्रिसमस दिवस ईसा मसीह की जयंती पर मनाया जाता है।  25 दिसंबर को, ईसा मसीह का जन्म बेथलहम में जोसेफ (पिता) और मैरी (मां) के घर हुआ था।

 सभी घरों और चर्चों को साफ किया जाता है, सफेद रंग से धोया जाता है और बहुत सारी रंगीन रोशनी, दृश्यों, मोमबत्तियों, फूलों और अन्य सजावटी चीजों से सजाया जाता है।  हर कोई एक साथ मिल जाता है (चाहे वह गरीब हो या अमीर) और बहुत सारी गतिविधियों के साथ इस त्योहार का आनंद लें।  लोग इस दिन अपने घर के मध्य में क्रिसमस ट्री बनाते हैं।  वे इसे बिजली की रोशनी, उपहार की वस्तुओं, गुब्बारों, रंगीन फूलों, खिलौनों, हरी पत्तियों और अन्य सामग्रियों से सजाते हैं।  क्रिसमस ट्री दिखने में बहुत ही आकर्षक और खूबसूरत लगता है।  लोग अपने दोस्तों, रिश्तेदारों और पड़ोसियों को क्रिसमस ट्री के सामने उत्सव में शामिल होने के लिए आमंत्रित करते हैं।  लोग इकट्ठे होते हैं, नाचते हैं, गाते हैं, उपहार बांटते हैं और स्वादिष्ट खाने का आनंद लेते हैं।

 ईसाई धर्म के लोग भगवान से प्रार्थना करते हैं।  वे अपने यीशु मसीह के सामने अपने पापों और कष्टों के बारे में अंगीकार करते हैं।  लोग अपने प्रभु यीशु की स्तुति में पवित्र गीत गाते हैं।  बाद में वे अपने मेहमानों और बच्चों को क्रिसमस उपहार बांटते हैं।  दोस्तों और रिश्तेदारों को क्रिसमस की बधाई या अन्य खूबसूरत क्रिसमस कार्ड देने का चलन है।  हर कोई क्रिसमस की दावत के महान उत्सव में शामिल होता है और परिवार के सदस्यों और दोस्तों के साथ स्वादिष्ट रात का खाना खाता है।  घर के बच्चे इस दिन का बहुत बेसब्री से इंतजार करते हैं क्योंकि उन्हें ढेर सारे उपहार और चॉकलेट मिलते हैं।  क्रिसमस का जश्न स्कूलों और कॉलेजों में भी एक दिन पहले यानी 24 दिसंबर को होता है जब छात्र सांता ड्रेस या क्रिसमस टोपी पहनकर स्कूल जाते हैं।

 लोग देर रात पार्टी में या मॉल और रेस्तरां में नाच-गाकर इस त्योहार का आनंद लेते हैं।  ईसाई धर्म के लोग अपने ईश्वर ईसा मसीह की पूजा करते हैं।  ऐसा माना जाता है कि यीशु (परमेश्वर के पुत्र) को उनके जीवन को बचाने और उनके पापों और दुखों से बचाने के लिए पृथ्वी पर लोगों के पास भेजा गया था।  ईसाई धर्म के लोग क्रिसमस के इस त्योहार को ईसा मसीह के महान कार्यों को याद करने और ढेर सारा प्यार और सम्मान देने के लिए मनाते हैं।  यह एक सार्वजनिक और धार्मिक अवकाश है जब लगभग सभी सरकारी और गैर-सरकारी संगठन बंद हो जाते हैं।
